This notice explains how the International Science and Technology Consortium processes personal data when you visit scintech.org or apply for membership. It follows the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where it applies to visitors in the European Union or the European Economic Area, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
1. Controller
International Science and Technology Consortium (Consortium International pour la Science et la Technologie) Association under Swiss law, IDE CHE-423.913.675 26 Rue Adrien-Lachenal, 1207 Geneva, Switzerland Email: info@scintech.org
2. Visiting the website
The website is delivered by Cloudflare, Inc. When you open a page, Cloudflare processes the technical data that every web request contains: IP address, date and time, the requested address, the referring page, and information about your browser and device.
We use these data to deliver the website, to keep it secure and to protect it against attacks. This is our legitimate interest under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Cloudflare keeps such logs only for a short period.
We do not use cookies for tracking or advertising, and we do not build visitor profiles. For visitor statistics we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which works without cookies and does not identify individual visitors.
3. Membership application
When you submit the form on the Join page, we process the data you enter:
- membership category
- organization and its website
- city and country
- name
- role
- email address
- phone number, if you give it
- for organizations, the number of students and of programs
- your fields of interest
- your message
- your confirmation of the declarations in the form
We use these data only to handle your application under Article 10 of our Statutes and to contact you about it. The legal basis is steps taken at your request before membership (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Your application is delivered as an email to the mailbox of our Secretariat, which is hosted by Microsoft Ireland Operations Ltd. (Microsoft 365). The website itself does not store your application.
To protect the form against automated abuse we use Cloudflare Turnstile. It checks the request without using cookies for tracking.
If you send your application from your own email program instead, the same rules apply to that email.
4. Map on the contact page
The map on the Contact page is loaded from OpenStreetMap (OpenStreetMap Foundation, United Kingdom) only after you click “Show map”. Only then is your IP address transmitted to OpenStreetMap.
5. Recipients and transfers abroad
We share personal data only with the service providers named in this notice, who act on our behalf, and with the members of our Secretariat and Executive Board who handle applications. We never sell or rent personal data.
Cloudflare and Microsoft may process data in countries outside Switzerland and the European Economic Area, including the United States. Such transfers are based on adequacy decisions, including the Data Privacy Framework between Switzerland and the United States and between the European Union and the United States where the provider is certified, or on standard contractual clauses.
6. Retention
Applications that do not lead to membership are deleted no later than 12 months after the decision.
For admitted members, the data are kept for as long as the membership lasts, and afterwards only as long as the law or our Statutes require.
Technical log data are kept by Cloudflare for a short period and then deleted.
7. Your rights
You may ask us for access to your data, for their correction or deletion, for restriction of their processing, and for a copy of your data in a portable format. You may also object to processing. To do so, write to info@scintech.org.
You may lodge a complaint with the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) or, if you live in the European Union or the European Economic Area, with your local data protection authority.
8. Changes
We may update this notice when our services change. The current version is always published on this page.
